CCH: Become A community Companion Home Provider

Connecticut, CT

Benhaven is seeking caring, dependable individuals and families interested in becoming licensed Community Companion Home (CCH) providers for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Do you have an Extra Bedroom?

Open your home to support an individual with a developmental or intellectual disability in a family-style living environment.

As a CCH Provider, you would:

  • Provide a safe and supportive home
  • Help with daily routines and community activities
  • Following DDS Community Companion Home regulations and individualized support plans
  • Provide transportation to appointments, activities, work, and community events as needed
  • Providing medication oversight and other health and safety supports
  • Attending regular planning and team meetings
  • Make a meaningful difference in someone's life
  • Receive ongoing support, training, and monthly income

CCH licensees are independent contractors and are not employees of Benhaven. This is a shared-living provider opportunity in which you open your private home to an individual receiving services through the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS).

What is a Community Companion Home?

A Community Companion Home (CCH) is a shared living arrangement in which an individual with intellectual or developmental disabilities lives in the private home of a licensed provider.

Compensation

CCH licensees receive:

  • A tax-free monthly stipend based on the needs of the individual placed in the home and the level of support required
  • A monthly rent payment from the individual living in the home

Compensation varies based on the needs and support level of the individual placed with you.

Because this is an independent contractor/shared-living arrangement, it is not a traditional hourly or salaried position.

Licensing Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Successfully complete all state-mandated background checks
  • Have a valid driver's license, vehicle registration, and automobile insurance
  • Maintain homeowners' or renters' insurance
  • Live in a home that meets applicable state and local fire, building, health, and safety requirements
  • Demonstrate competency in required health and safety training
  • Complete and maintain all required initial and annual trainings
  • Maintain a clean and safe home environment
  • Be able and willing to meet the needs of an individual living in the home
  • Be able to comply with operating standards outlined in Connecticut's Community Companion Home Licensing Regulations

As part of the licensing process, required background checks are completed for adult family members living in the home.

What to Expect During the Licensing Process

Becoming a CCH licensee includes:

  • State-mandated background checks
  • A home inspection and safety review
  • Interviews and a home study
  • Completion of required trainings
  • Assessment and matching to identify an individual who may be a good fit for your home and household

You will not be doing this alone. Benhaven's skilled, professional team provides ongoing guidance and support throughout the licensing process and after an individual is placed in your home.

Who May Be a Good Fit?

This opportunity may be a great fit for an individual, couple, or family who has room in their home and wants to make a meaningful difference in someone's life. Experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is valuable, but a commitment to providing a safe, stable, respectful, and inclusive home environment is essential.
