Leadership Expectations
The Residential Division Director is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team of Benhaven and is involved in all policy, strategic planning, program, and financial decisions that impact residential services and Benhaven as a whole. The Residential Division Director requires strong skills in communication, both oral and written; positive person-centered programming focused on community inclusion; budget preparation and review; managing supervisory staff; and interdepartmental collaboration. The Director will collaboratively set the tone and direction of residential services with the involvement of the Residential Management Team, to reflect the vision and mission of Benhaven. Through the leadership of this team, they will ensure that this direction is implemented to the benefit of residents and staff, and address situations where implementation is not occurring.
Responsibilities
- Participate in Senior Leadership discussions, goal setting and strategic planning efforts to represent the interests and concerns of residential staff and residents, and to contribute to organizational solutions and decisions
- Set expectations and measurable goals for the Residential Managers, Clinical Director, Day/QA Manager, and Nurses
- Review the progress of leadership staff to meet these expectations and hold each accountable
- Meet regularly with the Residential Leadership Team seeking input to policies and program direction; communicate agency decisions; ensure residential services are on track financially and programmatically; and address systemic issues as they arise
- Operate residential services within its budgetary limits
- Advance the mission of Benhaven for residences focusing of positive behavioral supports, program direction and support to enhance residents’ independence, choice making, skill building, community participation, work and social skills
- Promote self-advocacy
- Engage staff to ensure they are aware of all relevant policies and the direction and goals of residential services, and to seek their input regarding their need for support and direction
- Assure effective recruitment efforts so that residential services have sufficient staff and retains staff who meet Benhaven’s performance expectations
- Communicate with families through written, virtual and in-person meetings
- Assure effective communication between the residential program and Benhaven School to accomplish strong collaboration to achieve consistent support and services for adolescent residents
- Monitors systems developed to insure people receive all high quality supports
- Ensures systems are in place to monitor/review/maintain all logistical documentations (i.e. time sheets, activity sheets, incident/anecdotal reports, staff training materials, meeting minutes, supplies, maintenance requests).
Requirements
- In depth understand of CLA regulations, rules, statutes, and directives from DDS
- Understanding of HCBS Waiver services
- Experience in leading multiple group homes and/or HCBS services
- Minimum of 5 years management experience
- Thorough understanding of budgets and impact on staffing (i.e. schedules, OT, FMLA, WC)
- Ability to working collaboratively with peers
- Strong organizational abilities and detail oriented.
- Ability to apply basic theories, principles and techniques as they relate to the provision of supports to people with intellectual disability.
- Ability to develop, plan and provide supervision effectively.
- Ability to prepare written documents and reports using proper grammar and style.
- Has the ability to maintain consistent professional ethics as they relate to residents, support staff and the agency mission
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to apply basic theories, principles and techniques as they relate to the provision of supports to people with intellectual disability.
- Ability to analyze diverse problems and initiate solutions and to demonstrate proficiency in correspondence and report writing.
- Ability to motivate people and deal with issues beyond giving and receiving instructions.
Educational/Knowledge Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Special Education, Social Work or other related field.
- Two years’ experience working with people with intellectual disability. (Other combinations of experience and education may be considered).
- Experience providing supervision.
- Experience supporting people within a residential environment preferred.
- Has working knowledge of positive educational approaches and reinforcement programs that will support each resident’s individual strengths and adaptive limitations.
- Experience coordinating supports for individuals using a variety of disciplines.
- Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel for Windows and Ability to format and print documents.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a liability free driving record at all times.
- Must have reliable transportation.
