Residential Group Home Manager, North Haven

Benhaven Residential is Seeking a Residential Manager for a Group Home located in North Haven.

Full-time: 36 hours per week, non-exempt position

Location: North Haven

Purpose of Position:

The Residential Manager will report directly to the Director of Residential Services. The ideal candidate must be able to manage group home systems and resident programs (including health and behavior). The candidate must also be able to implement agency policies and procedures related to the group home as well as staff development. Experience working with the DDS system preferred.

The Group Home is a 4-bed site. The Residential Manager will report directly to the Director of Residential Services. This is a Full-time, exempt position. The Residential Manager works 37.5 hours weekly. Salary range is dependent upon experience. The ideal candidate must be able to manage group home systems and resident programs (including health and behavior). The candidate must also be able to implement agency policies and procedures related to the group home as well as staff development. Experience working with the DDS system preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:

The following duties are assigned to this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Is the administrator of the home
  • Ensures appropriate, quality staff are available for each shift
    • Interviews applicants using Benhaven's process for interviewing and hiring.
    • Develops a system for ensuring appropriately trained staff are available to cover each household and transportation shift, and oversee its implementation by others
    • Develops a core of appropriately trained substitute staff
  • Ensures staff are trained as required and as necessary to perform quality work
    • Schedules and provides initial house-specific training, and arranges for attendance at Orientation.
    • Ensures completion of assigned training
    • Develops a training process and ensure staff demonstrate understanding of training components
    • Monitors staff performance for quality, provides feedback and/or training as appropriate to ensure high-quality skill development
  • Ensures staff are evaluated as required by policy
    • Develops a staff performance evaluation schedule
    • Utilizes Benhaven’s professional development process, including goal development, evaluation, and progressive discipline as needed
  • Ensures staff are provided with quality supervision
    • Ensures each staff member knows who their immediate supervisor is, and is made aware of the supervision process at the time of hire
    • Ensures a schedule of supervision meetings is prepared and that meetings take place with employees as scheduled and at a minimum of once per quarter
    • Conducts supervision sessions with supervisees and document as appropriate
  • Ensures that roles are distributed appropriately
    • Ensures that each staff member understands and accepts his/her job description.
    • Ensures that roles are assigned consistently and that expectations are made clear to others
  • Oversees safe and clean use of home, yard, and vehicle
    • Ensures the implementation of house cleanliness, safety, and maintenance systems
    • Ensures evacuation plans are current, available in designated locations, and implemented according to Benhaven policy
  • Ensures records are on file that are current, complete, and meet requirements as designated by the policy
  • Participates in establishing house budget and ensures that expenditures remain within established limits
    • Utilizes an online payroll system to oversee the accuracy of staff documentation of hours worked
    • Reviews personnel budget bi-weekly
    • Reviews income/expense reports when issued
  • Ensures that staff know and comply with Benhaven’s policies and procedures
    • Ensures there is a copy of Benhaven’s Policies for Licensed DMR Residences in each home.
    • Ensures there is a copy of Benhaven’s Employee Handbook in each home.
    • Ensures each employee receives a copy of the Benhaven Employee Handbook at the time of hire.
    • Uses the policy books as references to provide day-to-day guidance
  • Oversees the development and implementation of each IP according to policy and within required timeframes
    • Ensures assessments (ie LON, Personal Possessions) are completed 1 month before IP
    • Conducts the annual IP meeting according to agency policy, within required timeframes, and with appropriate participants
    • Ensures IP is developed, disseminated, and filed according to established guidelines, within 30 days of the meeting.  IP includes goals, teaching strategies, and methods of data collection
    • Ensures other program components including behavioral plans, are incorporated into the IP
    • Ensures other assessments, including but not limited to functional analysis of behavior, communication evaluations, or physical or occupational therapy, are conducted as needed, with recommendations incorporated into and implemented as part of the IP
    • Ensures all staff are well trained in the implementation of each resident’s program plan
    • Ensures the IP is fully implemented within 30 days of the IP meeting and onward thereafter
  • Ensures programs are evaluated for effectiveness and progress reported on
    • Ensures programs involving the use of restraint and/or behavior modifying medication are graphed and reported monthly per agency policy
    • Ensures resident meetings occur at least twice annually, using Benhaven’s team process, and involving people important to the individual, including family members and the individual
    • Leads team to implement the IP, evaluate effectiveness, and modify/improve the program when necessary
    • Ensures decisions and recommendations made by the team are implemented and reported on
    • Ensures progress reports are written according to guidelines and completed timely per schedule
    • Ensures Advocates receive training in completing the material according to Benhaven standards
    • Ensures programs are reviewed by the PRC timely and according to guidelines
  • Ensures information is communicated well to other programs, families, and others involved
    • Ensures minutes document discussion, decisions, and recommendations, and are disseminated
    • Ensures routine communication with families and other programs, and prompt response to requests
    • Ensures urgent or vital information is communicated or responded to immediately
  • Oversees all aspects of resident-staff programs and ensure routines are developed, coordinated are optimally managed
    • Provides or ensures the provision of daily schedules for residents, including activities and staff assignments as per standard teaching practice, which are reflective of residents’ preferences and individual IPs
    • Ensures residential leaders oversee daily implementation of schedules and resident programs
    • Ensures residential leaders oversee daily implementation of established house routines including medication administration, staffing systems, home maintenance, communication, transportation, and others
  • Ensures individual client services are of high quality and well documented
    • Ensures medical, dental, mental health, social, and dietary services are appropriate for each individual, are modified where necessary, are provided timely, and as needed as per policy
    • Ensures nurses, doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, social workers, dieticians, and any other consultants provide consultation reports for each consultation.  In their absence ensures documentation is provided to the record by the nurse
    • Ensures recommendations made by any medical or related professional are followed-up and documented in the resident’s record
    • Ensures medical and psychiatric progress reports are provided for the resident’s record every quarter
    • Ensures educational and/or employment services are provided for each individual, and quarterly reports are provided for the resident’s record
  • Is responsible for the management of the home, including systems, staffing, scheduling, and resident health and behavioral programs
  • Is responsible for implementing policies and procedures related to the group home as well as staff development

 

Position Requirements

  • High school diploma, a college degree preferred. 
  • Experience with autism and/or developmental disabilities. 
  • Experience supervising and training staff (in a residential setting preferred). 
  • Experience or ability to lead resident programming, including developing, monitoring, and documenting as required. 
  • The flexibility of schedule to meet the needs of the home including on-call responsibilities. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to pass multiple background checks
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable and safe vehicle with registration and insurance.
